ABOUT THE LIMITED EDITION GICLÉES

A giclée (pronounced -zhee-clay-) is an art term originated by the French which means "spray". It is a very sophisticated type of limited edition print. However, as referred to most experts in the fine art industry, the proper term is "giclée" as the process to create a giclée is much more advanced and result with higher quality than the traditional lithographic or "poster" print which are commonly framed behind glass. The quality of a giclée is achieved by the use of high end media and advanced equipment involving microscopic spraying of the inks to produce a quality image for richer colors and clarity than a lithograph. In addition to Leanne's love for creating original art, she also carries a high interest in graphic imaging and printing where she is the maker and self-publisher of all her giclées, therefore sustaining a sense of personal touch for her collectors' investments. Time is well spent where meticulous imaging is conducted to ensure that the giclée image matches the original painting as close as possible. In addition, although the giclée artwork is slowly printed in high resolution, the rest of the production is assembled by hand. The canvas giclée is inspected, then applied with a glossy varnish, stretched and stapled around a ready-to-hang frame, and the sides are painted in black. For pieces over 11"x14" or 12"x12" (including multiples), the special feature with Laine’s giclées is that she also applies a glossy texture medium using either knife strokes or brush strokes following the subject matter throughout her art giving depth, dimension, enhanced sheen and contrast to the subject matter and its colors. All of her limited edition giclées are also signed in iridescent gold, as well as numbered, dated, titled, location of make, description of giclée “produced by the original artist” and registered with its own authenticity code on the back. This code corresponds with a signed Certificate of Authenticity that is also provided.

ABOUT THE ARTIST LEANNE LAINE

Born: Manila, Philippines in 1975 Raised and still residing: British Columbia, Canada since 1977 Visual art has always been Leanne’s passion for as long as she can see. However, like many people, Leanne was raised with very traditional values to grow up and become something more “practical” to keep up with this fast-paced society instead of doing art for a living. So she received her Business Management education and background instead while being a self-taught artist for many years as a personal hobby. Painting or sketching on her own time was her way of escaping from the pressures of making the “right” decisions for herself -- all the while her destiny was right at the tip of her paintbrush the entire time.

Despite trial years of spiraling into the fast lane of the corporate world (like many young adults from the city do after finishing school to make Mom and Dad proud) forced fate had become of her in July 2003 where she was suddenly laid off from her last employer due to company downsizing. Although unexpected encounters like this are becoming far too expected in today’s age, it can still be very disheartening for many. However, losing her job turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Instead of loathing in devastation, Leanne felt it was the time to accomplish her dream of becoming her own boss by turning her part-time love for art into a full-time career. Not only is she fulfilled doing something that she truly loves especially when it’s inspiring the hearts of others, but in her first year alone she sold over 400 of her hand-painted works that are now being displayed with private and corporate collectors from around the world, and still climbing today.

Therefore, no matter the turns taken down the various roads in her life, the road of Leanne’s true passion in the Arts has always remained to be a connected fork in her path. It took her a while to realize what destiny was trying to say, but this time she gets it and is on this road for good:

  • By the age of 10, Leanne performed solo piano and organ pieces in competitions where she won two highest achievement music awards in her grade.
  • Approaching 12, Leanne received a Fine Art Award that lead to her first exhibit in a local public library.
  • By the age of 14, she received highest achievement award in Fine Arts. Also selected to teach and choreograph modern hiphop for a new school curriculum while volunteering to teach young children in her neighborhood community center.
  • At 15, she received a Fine Art achievement award as well as a theatre and achievement award for a supporting acting role in a theater production at the Vancouver East Cultural Centre.
  • From 16 to 21, she found her way into singing and wound up doing studio work in Vancouver and L.A., vocally performed at local private and corporate functions, city clubs and also had the exciting opportunity to open concert for Montel Jorden, CeCe Peniston and S.W.V. as a vocalist in an all female local group called Mosaic.

Akin to the belief that things happen for a reason, Leanne now works out of her home studio creating art -- because Art is her reason.

ABOUT HER PAINTINGS

Leanne is an expressionist whose art is described to celebrate traditional subjects with a free-spirited, rebellious twist. She displays the concept of color more so than the subject matter itself, which vary for her love of the beauty in still-life wines, cocktails, floral potteries, landscapes, seascapes and abstract figures. Her combination of bold and neutral colors in play with rough acrylic strokes, providing plenty of texture to the touch give a sense of striking composition and urban appeal most suitable for the modern art enthusiast and contemporary space. “Creating art is like a dance for me. When dancing, your body is stimulated by the rhythm of music. When I paint, my eyes are stimulated by the power of what we take for granted in our daily surroundings -- color. I work to stimulate the visual senses by greatly enhancing colors, shapes, light, shadow, still-life and motion. I believe that art should have no boundaries or limitations. Imagination is such a powerful tool and I encourage it through my pieces in hopes that you as the viewer will be able to encourage your imagination and free it to unlimited depths as well.”

Leanne’s works are mainly on stretched canvas using artist quality acrylics. Her technique is mostly applied with the palette knife more so than the paint brush. Each piece is varnished with a protective medium glossy finish to withstand humid environments, prevent yellowing, and sustain its original condition for a life span of over 80 years. The sides of the stretched canvas pieces are staple-free and finished in black (museum wrapped sides are also available) to allow the look for gallery depth and dimension when hung without a frame. All of her paintings are signed in iridescent gold, as well as numbered, dated, titled, location of make, description of painting ie. “hand-painted original acrylic on canvas”, and registered with its own authenticity code on the back. This code corresponds with a signed Certificate of Authenticity that is also provided.

My heartfelt thanks to all my supporters, not to mention my repeat loyal customers, who continually show faith in my development and wish me much encouragement. I keep this in mind, for which you will always have a very special place in my heart. Thank you soooo much!”
