"I'm always hearing about the red or white wine. It's time to make a stand for the blush!" - This piece is for anti-bullying day -- don't just wear the pink shirt. If you plan to go out for a beverage, forgo the white or red. Stand up against bullies and make a toast with something pink! I've had my share of being bullied. And it did not just happen in school, it also happened in the work place and a couple of old relationships. People bully because they're really insecure and need to create havoc with others so they can feel better about themselves. I had always kept this in mind whenever I was bullied but I also did two very important things -- I stayed focus on doing things I love and enjoy (like creating art because having a passion for something keeps me strong) and I was also NEVER silent about it. When it happened in school, I spoke to a teacher and the school counsellor. When it happened in the workplace, I told human resources. When it happened in previous relationships, I told trustworthy and supportive family, friends and sought professional and spiritual help. Eventually, I left and learned. As hard as it was, it was one of life's adversities that I've been able to overcome. If anything, it did help me become a stronger and more determined person today. But you just cannot ever, ever, EVER be silent. Stand up to your bullies for yourself and others, and tell someone. Now I think that's something to toast about -- loudly.
